Concert in the dark: Ditzner / Lömsch Duo
If that's not a well-rehearsed team: drummer Erwin Ditzner and saxophonist Lömsch Lehmann, two heroes of the regional scene, have known each other for ages, played together in the Mardi Gras Big Band and in various other constellations. And for years they have also played together as a duo, which reflects the full range of their musical experience: from free jazz to rockier grooves. In any case, it would be hard to find more versatile and active musicians, and the fact that the two enjoy experimenting is evident in this edition of Enjoy Jazz: for a decade now, concerts have been taking place in the dark in the rooms of the Schloss-Schule Ilvesheim, a state school for the blind and visually impaired - in other words, concerts in which the instrumentalists have to rely on their intuitive, sonic intuitions. No eye contact, no notes, no distracting tricks: Here, it's all about the perception of music and sounds. The attraction of the whole thing is obvious: for the protagonists, it means maximum concentration on the sounds produced from the darkness by the playing partner, and also on the vibrations emanating from the listeners, who are also sitting completely in the dark. For the audience, the reduction of sensual perception results in an immensely increased intensity.
