Fityan Band - Magic of Maqam

How does intercultural music sound that exists beyond the categories of Orient and Occident?

Massive jazz/rock groove aesthetics merge with the delicate sounds of quanun, oud, baglama, trumpet and nay. With Magic of Maqam, the Fityan Band creates a global band sound in which the diversity of Arabic, Turkish and Persian musical cultures is expressed.

Magic of Maqam takes you on a musical search for the common origins of different musical traditions, which deliberately does not juxtapose opposites, but allows you to experience real fusion.

For Magic of Maqam , the quartet line-up of the Fityan Band (nay, guitar, bass, drumset) is expanded with further specialists of the music tradition from their respective home countries. Together, the musicians have composed and arranged a completely unheard program in which monophonic microtonal traditions meet polyphony and counterpoint. Close project partners are Grammy-nominated musicologist Vladimir Ivanoff, the Oriental Music Academy Mannheim, and the Friends of Arab Art and Culture Heidelberg.

This evening of crossing borders will be complemented by the brand new program by Beyond Borders, who will build a bridge between world-famous Beatles songs and interpretations of songs by Egyptian icon Abdel Wahab with "Beatles go Egypt". The audience will be given a new perspective on the pop music of two different worlds in the 1960s. This means that 27.11.2022 is also the album release concert for "Beatles go Egypt"!
