Naïssam Jalal

Naïssam Jalal was born in Paris to Syrian parents. This is not unimportant, as the musical threads of the flautist, singer, composer and virtuoso Nay player are woven between the Arab ancestral world and the French world. The "end-edged flute" is at home in Arabic and Persian music, among others, and after Jalal graduated from the conservatory in Paris, she went to Damascus to study the Nay, then to Cairo to work with some of the grand masters of Arabic music. Now she is one of the grand masters herself. She doesn't care about genre classifications. She works with rappers and jazz musicians, and in her ensembles she is able to bring together the various musical threads - her fantastic quartet in particular offers the opportunity for free improvisation and great openness; this music sounds trance-like and spiritual. It is no coincidence that her most recent album is entitled "Healing Rituals".
