Release: Long Ago and Far Away
"Long Ago and Far Away" was the title of the release of the recording of an Enjoy Jazz concert given by Charlie Haden and Brad Mehldau at the Christuskirche in Mannheim in 2007. The free jazz bassist Charlie Haden saw Mehldau for the first time at a solo concert in Pennsylvania in 1993 and was so impressed by his playing that he invited the pianist to Los Angeles three years later. A close friendship developed, which was also expressed in musical collaboration. The 2007 concert, however, was the artists' first duo concert.
Now, eleven years after the recording and four years after Charlie Haden's death, the fantastic improvisations of the two brilliant musicians can finally be heard again on the album "Long Ago And Far Away", released on Impulse. The recording includes such diverse pieces as Charlie Parker's bluesy classic "Au Privave" or film songs such as "My Old Flame", "Long Ago And Far Away" and "My Love And I" through to Irving Berlin's "What'll I Do?" and the Frank Sinatra number "Everything Happens To Me".
The CD is now available for purchase at Enjoy Jazz concerts and in specialist shops.
