Release: Long Ago and Far Away

"Long Ago and Far Away" was the title of the release of the recording of an Enjoy Jazz concert that Charlie Haden and Brad Mehldau gave in the Christuskirche in Mannheim in 2007. The free jazz bassist Charlie Haden saw Mehldau for the first time at a solo concert in Pennsylvania in 1993 and was so enthusiastic about his playing that he invited the pianist to Los Angeles three years later. A close friendship developed, which also expressed itself in musical collaboration. The 2007 concert, however, was the artists' first duo concert.
Now, eleven years after the recording and four years after Charlie Haden's death, the fantastic improvisations of the two brilliant musicians can finally be heard again on the album "Long Ago And Far Away" released on Impulse. The recording includes such diverse pieces as Charlie Parker's bluesy classic "Au Privave" or film songs like "My Old Flame", "Long Ago And Far Away" and "My Love And I" to Irving Berlin's "What'll I Do?" and the Frank Sinatra number "Everything Happens To Me".
The CD is now available for purchase at Enjoy Jazz concerts and in specialist shops.
