Avishai Cohen Quartet

Of course the name Miles Davis comes up when people talk about Avishai Cohen. Of course his classical training comes up, his being a child prodigy, his studies at Berklee College of Music. And, of course, the fact that he earned his spurs in the Mecca of jazz, New York, as part of Mark Turner's quartet, among others. His first album was called "The Trumpet Player" - to avoid confusion with his namesake, the Bass Player. What is sometimes forgotten: Cohen has developed his own lyrical, modern, cool tone with his albums released on ECM, which congenially engages with the narrative styles of his fellow musicians and can be pointed and rousing despite all the nuances.

The music on his latest album "Naked Truth" came to him in a magical way, only unfolding in the studio. The process of creation is the focus, not the goal. He calls "Naked Truth" a "meditation" - a minimalist attempt at infinite melodic possibilities.
