What an amazing line-up! And even more amazing is the story behind the making of this event. The Danish guitarist Jacob Bro, studied, once quite regularly playing jazz with the late Paul Motian, Lee Konitz or Tomasz Stanko, today rather with Palle Mikkelborg, Joe Lovano, Jorge Rossy, Larry Grenadier, Brian Blade, Arve Henriksen, Thomas Morgan or Joey Baron, at some point left behind the conventional exhibition of virtuosity and chose silence. Today, by his own admission, he tries to play music that does not sound like music. And above all, to escape the limitations of being pigeonholed as a jazz musician in outside perceptions. Asked in an interview to what extent his current aesthetic relates to a Japanese approach and minimalism, Bro revealed himself to be a fan of Japanese ambient pioneer Midori Takada ("Through The Looking Glass" (1988)), with whom he gave two completely free improvised performances in Berlin and Copenhagen in early summer. Afterwards, a quartet in the line-up of tonight (guitar, cello, trumpet, percussion & electronics) picked up the thread in each case and continued to explore it sonically. In the Berlin "Tagesspiegel" the reliable Gregor Dotzauer wrote about it: "Something static still clings to this music, which in the quiet swelling and ebbing, however, already shows recognizable transitions. In its openness to the inside and outside, it could expand, constantly changing, into infinity." Or as Brian Eno defined Ambient, "As ignorable as it is interesting." Listeners are free to choose. To long for a storm at some point is a matter of temperament. The few concerts that have taken place so far have been recorded. An album, it is heard, is planned. A tour has been announced for spring 2024. Where the journey will go, does not seem to be determined. It should be exciting to be stuff:in an emergence.
