What a summit meeting: For the festival's anniversary year, it would be hard to imagine a more fitting artist in residence than the US-American Moor Mother aka Camae Ayewa. Spoken word poet, activist, songwriter, bandleader, university lecturer, composer - and winner of the German Jazz Prize as International Artist of the Year 2023, she has set standards with her Afrofuturist collective Black Quantum Futurism, her band Irreversible Entanglements, and her solo works such as her most recent album Jazz Codes. As part of her residency, Moor Mother has invited one of her great idols: Archie Shepp, key figure of avant-garde jazz and living legend. It's a world premiere. Two of the most important voices of their generation for freedom in equality meet here for the first time. It could be an evening that goes down not only as a highlight in the history of our festival.
