Nyege Nyege presents The Sound of Uganda

In the Bantu language, "Nyege Nyege" refers to the involuntary feeling of having to dance right now. Nyege Nyege is also the name of a collective that features electronic music by African artists, organizes parties, runs an artist house, two record labels and a festival. Some of the musicians involved with Nyege Nyege are now presenting themselves at Enjoy Jazz : Titi Bakorta, from the Congo, creates a peculiarly spherical, floating pop music with tight beats and suggestive vocals. Rehema and Asher Ta- jiri, a mother-daughter duo from Tanzania, are regarded as the representatives of the Singeli underground, "the fastest and dirtiest music ever" ("Die Welt"). Pö from Ghana combines dancehall, fonte do funk and Caribbean high-speed dembow. The line-up is completed by Kongi, an experimental and politically aware DJ and activist. To sum up the evening in a nutshell: Nyege Nyege!
