Nyege Nyege presents The Sound of Uganda

In the Bantu language, "Nyege Nyege" refers to the involuntary feeling of absolutely having to dance right now. Nyege Nyege is also the name of a collective that celebrates electronic music by African artists, organizes parties, runs an artists' house, two record labels and a festival. Some of the musicians involved with Nyege Nyege will now introduce themselves at Enjoy Jazz: Titi Bakorta, hailing from Congo, creates a peculiarly spherical, floating pop music with tight beats and suggestive vocals. Rehema and Asher Ta- jiri, a mother-daughter duo from Tanzania, are considered the representatives of the Singeli underground, "fastest and dirtiest music" ever ("Die Welt"). Pö from Ghana combines dancehall, fonte do funk and Caribbean high-speed dembow. Completing the line-up is Kongi, an experimental and politically alert DJane and activist. To sum up the evening: Nyege Nyege!
