Cymin Samawatie & Ketan Bhatti

Assuming that we already live in a postcolonial and postmigrant society, this raises the question of how diversity manifests itself in a correspondingly radical contemporary music. Or precisely how it does not manifest itself, but remains fluid in permanent self-reflection. After singer and composer Cymin Samawatie and drummer Ketan Bhatti have been on the road in the field of "ethno-jazz" since 2002 with the project Cyminology, which has received many awards, they have now put the topics of "de-hierarchization", "decolonization" and "transtraditionalism" on the agenda with the Trickster Orchestra. Polyperspectivity in real time would have to be added in order to free instruments and playing styles from the ballast of respective traditions in times of rampant identity politics. The "why" would be clear, what remains is the "how"! So: outsmarting conventions. Sounds complex, but in fact it is adventurous and exciting.
