Avant-garde was supposed to be just an artistic snapshot. Elliott Sharp has made it a genre. His radicalism is a sound research driven by scientific meticulousness. His sound has never been merely the sound of a guitarist, but always that of a composer searching in his music for nothing less than an explanation of the world. His work is practically free of repetition. If one experiment succeeds, he turns to the next; if it fails, he immediately changes the parameters. Sharp is the best proof that one can only find true freedom in art as a ceaseless seeker. His acclaimed performances at Enjoy Jazz have always been an inspiration and a radical school of wonder. We congratulate this great musical boundary explorer on his 70th birthday. Happy Birthday, Elliott!
