Sustainability as a self-commitment

The transformation path of Enjoy Jazz

"Be the change you wish to see in this world." If you take this sentence by Mahatma Ghandi, which is universally valid, seriously, it results in nothing less than a resilient self-commitment.

In this spirit, Enjoy Jazz 2022 has launched a sustainability program. There were two guiding principles. As a decentralized festival without its own venue, it was clear from the outset that we wanted to think integratively and process the knowledge we had acquired in a scalable way in order to make it available to as many cultural players as possible. This idea led, among other things, to the initiation and co-founding of an open regional "Sustainable Culture Network", which has been working successfully in an egalitarian and cooperative manner for almost a year now. Around 30 cultural institutions and several individual artists are currently involved in the network, including our main venues Karlstorbahnhof, Alte Feuerwache and dasHaus. "Furthermore," adds festival director Rainer Kern, "it was important to us to understand the topic of sustainability holistically, i.e. ecologically, economically and socially, and in particular to address it artistically. Incidentally, our festival motto 'Healing' directly reflects this."

Here is an excerpt of the milestones of the 2024 festival year compiled by our Transformation Manager Rozan Dikkat:
