Bill Laurance
Sunday, October 20, 2024, Metropolink's Commissary
Bill Laurance, a British piano virtuoso with classical training and co-founder of Snarky Puppy, enriches his jazz with elements of electro, classical and pop music.
His current label ACT describes his spherical piano playing as a journey into musical escapism. In addition to his work as a jazz musician, he has made a name for himself as a film composer and wrote the music for the film portrait of folk rock legend David Crosby, among others. He also collaborates with orchestras to intensify the soulful soundscape of his compositions with string instruments. As a solo artist, Laurance has released several albums, including the highly acclaimed "Cables", a balancing act between the unknown and the familiar. For Billboard Magazine, this is simply "captivating, soulful jazz". With this in mind, it will be exciting to see how the pianist combines the different elements of his work in his solo playing.
