CANCELLED: Endea Owens & The Cookout

She likes to crack jokes, wears a big grin with pride and nobody can fool her on the bass: Endea Owens combines show talent with virtuosity, fantastic compositions and stylistic confidence. Since graduating from the Juilliard School, she has been playing with living legends on TV almost every day as a band member on Stephen Colbert's Late Show. She also transports the iconic Blue Note sound from the 1970s to the present day with her band The Cookout. "Jazz wasn't my first choice," she admits. Owens played classical music on the violin and piano and went to church almost every day. It all clicked when she played a bass part of Mozart's 25th Symphony by ear and her orchestra teacher persuaded her to change instruments. It is not unlikely that this secured him a place in jazz history.
