Erwin Ditzner's Carte Blanche
Wednesday, 16. October 2024, Old Fire Station
A classic win-win situation: 15 years ago, Rainer Kern gave Erwin Ditzner a blank cheque - at his carte blanche evening, the drummer, who masters all idioms between rock and free jazz, is allowed to choose his fellow musicians and simply ignore musical boundaries. In return, the audience is treated to daring improvisations. In 2015, Ditzner formed an excellently playful trio with Elliott Sharp and Sebastian Gramss; now he has chosen Sharp as his duo partner.
As early as the 80s, he followed Sharp's projects with Bill Laswell, Eugene Chadbourne and John Zorn with interest. He is fascinated by his "directness, his rough and soft playing, his positive energy and presence". For Ditzner, the duo enables the "purest form of playing together". Sharp has a similar view - it took him less than ten minutes to respond to the request: "Let's do it!". And doing it means: "free improv with rocking sounds and groovy passages".
