Erwin Ditzner's Carte Blanche
Thursday, October 22, 2026, Old Fire Station
This marks the 18th time that the accomplished free-jazz drummer Erwin Ditzner has performed a “Carte Blanche” at Enjoy Jazz. Last year, he thrilled the audience with a virtuoso solo concert; this year, he has assembled a very special lineup: together with one of the legendary founders of European free jazz, the now 88-year-old Alexander von Schlippenbach—with whom Ditzner has previously performed in a duo and at an earlier Carte Blanche—as well as bassist Sebastian Gramss and Christof Thewes on trombone. The four artists—connected across generations by the art of improvisation—will let the music emerge freely in the moment. Completely pure and analog. In his conceptual explorations, Ditzner works with rhythmically artful layering and abrupt breaks, with fragmented sounds, solo eruptions, internal formations, and powerful tutti soundscapes. Energetic, raw, and at the same time, of a vulnerable beauty.
