Gregory Porter

Perhaps the most apt description of Gregory Porter comes from “Deutschlandfunk Kultur,” which simply calls him “the figurehead of contemporary jazz.” The towering singer with the velvety baritone is truly a phenomenon. For many, Porter is seen as a late bloomer, as his career didn’t really take off until he was over 40. Yet he simply had to soak up a great deal of life experience to shape his deeply empathetic, soft, and moving voice: as a football player, a chef, or a cast member of a Broadway show. Since then, over the course of 16 years, he has been nominated for a Grammy a record-breaking eight times. He has won it twice. His songs are of great socio-political relevance and, at the same time, possess a beauty that offers solutions. In short: this man is a phenomenon.
