Origin and identity

"Who am I, anyway? And why at all?

On October 29, the show "Who am I anyway? And why at all?" will premiere in experimenta's Science Dome. In the interactive format, Clarissa Corrêa da Silva and Simone Müller explore together with the audience the questions of what makes people tick and what shapes them.

Currently, around 40 percent of students in Germany have a migration background. What impact does this have on society? What factors actually shape people in their development? TV presenter Clarissa Corrêa da Silva and actress Simone Müller will get to the bottom of these and other exciting questions about origin and identity at experimenta on October 29. Their interactive knowledge show "Who am I anyway? And why at all?" runs at 12:00 and 15:00 in the Science Dome and is aimed at children and young people aged 10 and over.

Search for identity with a surprising outcome
At eye level, da Silva and Müller take their audience on a journey: It begins with demarcation and exclusion in everyday life and ends after about an hour with raising awareness for tolerance, diversity and self-determination. The two performers themselves have a migration background and at the beginning report on their personal experiences in the search for identity in an alternation of humorous scenes and scientific explanations. It quickly becomes clear that although all people have 99.9 percent identical genetic makeup, many of them have to live with prejudices, role stereotypes and discrimination. Together with the young viewers, the effects of this are worked out in the show.

Clarissa Corrêa da Silva and Simone Müller then explain in science slam style how the scientific disciplines of microbiology and epigenetics are helping to rethink traditional ideas of origin and identity. For example, while there is a genetic imprint from ancestors, each person fundamentally has the ability to develop their own values and behaviors. A realization that also plays an important role in the last part of the show: The two actresses enter into an exchange with the audience and evaluate certain scenarios by voting together with everyone.
