Ingredients for Disaster
Swiss composer and pianist Nik Bartsch may be the most important musician of our time that you've never heard of... until now.
Ingredients for Disaster is a 60-minute documentary that explains how this hypnotic and interwoven but fundamentally funky music is made by this extraordinarily disciplined band of virtuoso musicians called Ronin.
Through insightful interviews, wild computer animations and rousing performances that trace a musical map from Stravinksy to John Cage to Thelonious Monk to James Brown, we get to the core of Nik Bärtsch and Ronin's driving, kinetic sound.
We see how Bärtsch builds his music like a master architect, creating impossible polyrhythmic and sonic structures around a central groove foundation; how he and his band of Swiss master craftsmen orbit around each other in musical orbits, thrilling audiences around the world in perfect synchronization.
With computer-generated graphics created by the world's leading computer animators and interviews with fellow musicians, critics and even professors, we attempt to crack his musical code, which is complex and unfathomably deep, yet delivers groove, trance and dance.
Join us on a journey to the musical frontier where few have gone before....
