Istanbul Jazz Festival presents Taşra Trilogy & Dilan Balkay

At the beginning of the evening, the motto is: Movie goes Jazz. The first three works by filmmaker Nuri Bilge Ceylan, who has received numerous awards at international festivals, are unofficially referred to as the "Taşra Trilogy". Three renowned Turkish jazz musicians (Yigit Ozatalay, Baris Erturk and Mustafa Kemal Emirel) play live compositions written especially for the films to accompany film excerpts.

Meaningfully, multi-instrumentalist Dilan Balkay once said in an interview that while the trumpet carries more weight for her than other instruments, for her the instrument can also subordinate itself or transform into something that was not intended. Starting out as an accompanist in the alternative Turkish music scene, Balkay joined Dolu Kadehi Ters Tut, an influential indie rock band, in 2018. On her debut album "KUYU", released in 2021, she has everything in her own hands, as a songwriter, singer, guitarist and keyboardist with a flair for affirming and pop-affine melodies, sounds, grooves. That the Istanbul Jazz Festival has chosen this great 28-year-old singer/songwriter and trumpeter with jazz roots for its evening is anything but surprising: in her, internationality, openness and musical boundlessness are combined. Qualities that also traditionally characterize Enjoy Jazz.
