Jan Garbarek Group feat. Trilok Gurtu

It's hard to believe! On 4 March 2022, Jan Garbarek, the seemingly ageless man, celebrated his 75th birthday. To mark this occasion, but not only, the year 2022 will be marked by an extensive live presence of the highly popular Jan Garbarek Group, which has been on the road in changing formations since 1979. Inspired by John Coltrane and Dexter Gordon, Garbarek developed a peculiar sound from the mix of post-free jazz, Pharoah Sanders hymnody and Nordic folk traditions that helped him establish himself as one of the most important voices in European jazz in the 1970s. Garbarek's work in Keith Jarrett's European quartet, the trio with Egberto Gismonti and Charlie Haden and the bands with Ralph Towner and Eberhard Weber stand out from the multitude of projects and his own bands. Garbarek has been releasing on "ECM" since 1970. In the midst of the most diverse, sometimes very successful collaborations (keyword: The Hilliard Ensemble), the Jan Garbarek Group functions as the reliable constant, so to speak: a dazzlingly staged event - sometimes melodious, songlike, sparse, then again dynamic, pathetic, dramatic, sometimes boldly dissonant and intense, with plenty of room for soloistic highlights by all participants and in principle open to possibility.
