Jowee Omicil

Multi-instrumentalist Jowee Omicil absorbs elements of musical styles and cultures like a giant sponge. His musical journey took him from his father's church via Berklee College in Boston to New York, where he met Ornette Coleman and played with Roy Hargrove. But Haiti, Venezuela and Paris have also left their mark: African rhythms, echoes of Thelonius Monk and Miles Davis, motifs from Bach and Mozart, oriental and Caribbean influences merge with a load of funk to create timeless and cosmopolitan jazz. The common thread is the eventful life story of an artist who constantly portrays himself anew. And yet he achieves a rare closeness and immersive power that transforms every concert into an exhilarating rollercoaster ride between deeply moving moments and exuberant joy of movement.
