Kris Davis

In 2018, pianist Kris Davis performed for the first time with drummer Terri Lyne Carrington and electronic musician Val Jeanty: The trio formed the basis of musical explorations that led to the album "Diatom Ribbons" (2019). With guests such as Marc Ribot, Esperanza Spalding and JD Allen, it became a celebrated work that transforms complex sound structures into a dense tableau and conjures up the spirits of Cecil Taylor, Henry Threadgill and Olivier Messiaen - musicians who each explored the idea of composition in their own way and with whom Davis was working at the time. Fleetingly expressive piano patterns are laid on top of Jeanty's multi-layered sample foundation, into which scraps of Taylor's or Messiaen's language are woven, while Carrington irresistibly brings the free drafts into a rhythmic flow. The most recent document of the project is the CD "Live at the Village Vanguard".

Live at the Enjoy Festival, the trio will be accompanied by Nick Dunston on bass.
