Late Night: Tania Giannouli & Sun Mi Hong

As already emphasized here several times, the pianist and composer Tania Giannouli attaches great importance to always having several different arrows in her quiver. Also, or perhaps because of this, she is open to spontaneous artistic encounters and "conversations" with other musicians. For example, with the Korean-born drummer Sun-Mi Hong, who has been living in Amsterdam since 2011. In the Netherlands, she is considered a "rising star" in a highly volatile scene after completing her studies at the Amsterdam Conservatory. Who remembers: Last year, Sun-Mi Hong wowed audiences with a solo performance at the Heidelberger Kunstverein. Now she has invited Tania Giannouli, in her capacity as artist in residence, to a late-night duo concert at the Heiliggeistkirche in Heidelberg. Common to both artists is an interest in exploring the widest possible palette of timbres and emotions. Sun-Mi Hong herself characterizes her style as "marked by dramatic and emotional variations, from sensitivity and minimalism to wildness and groove." On the one hand, it will be exciting to experience how Giannouli knows how to make this range productive; on the other hand, a comparison to the different ways of playing in comparable constellations by Michele Rabbia or Marilyn Mazur should be appealing. And then there is the chosen time and place of this encounter!
