Matinee: Delphine Joussein, *CALAMITY*
Sunday, October 25, 2026, Chapel
Delphine Joussein is a force to be reckoned with. The French flutist and electronic musician, known for her trio NOUT and the Collectif COAX, as well as for her collaborations with international improvisational musicians such as Mats Gustavsson and his Fire Orchestra or the Ensemble Sauvages Paradis, will present her solo project Calamity. These are sound textures that grow into ornaments. In Joussein’s work, tonal shifts and powerful electronic drones coalesce into a monumental Gesamtkunstwerk. As a collage of intense energy, poetic beauty, free jazz, and noise—infused with elements of early music and extreme metal—Jouissein utilizes every inch of her flute, single-handedly creating a raw, jumbled, trembling, and hammering sonic architecture through distortions, loops, delays, and electronic effects.
