Matinee: Music was my first love: Mirna Funk
An event of the Friends of Enjoy Jazz
For some people - let's rather say for some men - Mirna Funk is an irritating and dangerous contemporary, and if you follow her work a bit, you get the impression that she likes it that way. If you listen to Mirna Funk narrate, on the radio or on stage, she always seems to be smiling a bit, oh, somehow this smirk is inscribed in her voice. In any case, there is something cheeky that seems all the more enchanting because the things Mirna Funk tells are quite clever and worthy of consideration. About what she talks and writes? About sex and Jewish life today, about family and everything else that happens in the world. She has published two novels, commutes between Berlin and Tel Aviv, has a daughter, studies philosophy on the side and - this should not be missing from any text about her - drives an old Porsche, which suits her far better than the older gentlemen who otherwise have to peel themselves out of the deep seats and torture themselves to do justice to their inner youthfulness. Mirna Funk seems to get by on little sleep. For in addition to columns, novels, major seminar papers, she has also written a radio play, with music by Malakoff Kowalski. Speaking of which: like many sensible people, her first love must have been music, because otherwise she certainly wouldn't have accepted the invitation to the "Music Was My First Love" series. In her Spotify playlist, she moves nimbly back and forth between David Bowie, FKA Twigs and Charlotte Gainsbourg. What else lies dormant in her musical biography, she will certainly tell you this morning.
