Nduduzo Makhathini Trio

Artist in Residence 2024
In recent years, a long-hidden force has increasingly returned to jazz: spirituality.
One of the protagonists of this movement is our "Artist in Residence 2024", the trained healer and pianist Nduduzo Makhathini. Fittingly, he found his way to jazz via John Coltrane's album "A Love Supreme", the monolithic boundary stone between musical spirituality and avant-garde. "People often think: 'Ah, he's a healer, so he'll heal me'," explains Makhathini, "but it's more about opening up a space for a grace that has the power to recharge the broken parts of our soul, of our body." And that is exactly what this trio succeeds in doing: making the audience receptive to healing self-experiences through listening.
No wonder the music of Makhathini, the first "Blue Note" artist from South Africa, regularly appears in the annual best lists.
