This project is our pride and joy, even though we immediately pass on the credit to the wonderful educators Dr. Peer Hübel, Peter Jacob, and Stefan Kirsch. Where else can you find something like this: a school big band, recruited from three schools in three cities and two states, playing a headlining gig in front of a sold-out crowd every year? We'll tell you: nowhere! Year after year, the big band leaders have to replace up to 50 percent of the ensemble due to school leavers. It seems like a modern version of the myth of Sisyphus. Again and again, the three educators roll a stone, carefully amalgamated from over forty pieces, toward the summit, only to watch it roll back down into the valley each time and start all over again. But what was considered a punishment in ancient times is now associated with lasting success. Several members of the orchestra have since taken up music studies.
