Sophia Club

It is one of the most exciting contemporary philosophy series in the world: the “Sophia Club.” Behind it is the team behind the digital magazines “Aeon” and “Psyche,” whose articles have been showered with awards. Normally, the renowned “Live Philosophy” series is only available in New York, London, and Melbourne. Rainer Kern has now succeeded for the second time in bringing the “Sophia Club” to Heidelberg—Germany’s oldest academic center for philosophy, with a history spanning 640 years. The evening consists of a discussion exploring various aspects of this year’s festival theme, “Beauty”—moderated in an intelligent, engaging, and knowledgeable manner. Live musical interludes are woven throughout. By the end, both elements come together to form a coherent whole. The beauty of thought meets the beauty of jazz.
