Tomoki Sanders
Sunday, 25. October 2026, Karlstorbahnhof
Tomoki Sanders shares the same fate—or perhaps the same good fortune—as Ravi Coltrane and Matthew Garrison. All three are the children of legendary jazz musicians, and all three have managed to earn their stripes and forge their own paths. And the three have already collaborated over the course of their careers. Tomoki (they/them), born in New York City in 1994, is by no means a newcomer—they’re far too active for that; Tomoki Sanders inherited the tenor saxophone from their father, Pharoah Sanders—along with a passion for experimentation. They navigate just as confidently between Great Black Music, electronic music, and the avant-garde as they do between their Japanese and American backgrounds. After several years in Kassa Overall’s band—which performed at Enjoy Jazz 2023 Enjoy Jazz Tomoki Sanders is now presenting their own project and their debut on the Impulse! label—where, as is well known, their father Pharoah has also left his mark.
