Tomoki Sanders
Sunday, 25. October 2026, Karlstorbahnhof
Tomoki Sanders shares the same fate—or perhaps the same good fortune—as Ravi Coltrane and Matthew Garrison. All three are the children of legendary jazz musicians, and all three have managed to earn their stripes and forge their own paths. And the three have already collaborated over the course of their careers. Tomoki (dey/dem/deren), born in New York City in 1994, is by no means a newcomer—dey is far too active for that; Tomoki inherited the tenor saxophone from his father, Pharoah Sanders—along with a passion for experimentation. Tomoki moves just as confidently between the styles of Great Black Music, electronic music, and the avant-garde as he does between his Japanese and American backgrounds. After several years in Kassa Overall’s band—which performed at Enjoy Jazz in 2023 Enjoy Jazz Tomoki Sanders is now presenting his own project and, at the same time, his debut on the Impulse! label, where, as is well known, his father Pharoah has also left his mark.
After the concert, the team from “Projekt Sokrates. Heidelberg Street Philosophy” will be happy to speak with you one-on-one about our festival theme, “Beauty,” in a pleasant and inspiring atmosphere.
