The concert of Vels Trio on 11.10.22 is unfortunately canceled

For a long time, the (legitimate) media hype about the new wave of Brit jazz focused on the highly creative London scene around the "Tomorrow's Warriors" music collective, represented by musicians such as Shabaka Hutchings, Mose Boyd, Nubya Garcia and Theon Cross. The view was then broadened by the compilation "Kaleidoscope. New Spirits Known & Unknown", which drew attention to comparably productive indie jazz scenes in Birmingham, Manchester and Brighton. From there comes the Vels Trio, which was represented on the compilation with "Yellow Ochre (Part 1)". Dominant playing style and influences like Spiritual Jazz, the legendary "Impulse!" or "Strata East" labels, Afro-Caribbean, Afrobeat or HipHop are complemented by the Vels Trio by a not at all ironically meant and completely committed to the present re-presentation of the early fusion experiments of the 1970s. Sometimes rough funky, sometimes spherical playful, sometimes radio-ready with pop appeal, sometimes rhythmically intricate, with a feel for melodies and plenty of jam potential, the debut album "Celestial Greens", released in 2021, reminded some critics of the albums that George Duke once recorded for the "MPS" label, and not without reason. The current single is titled "Pop Stuff", which could turn into "Prog Stuff" live. All musicians in demand in the scene, the trio explains the gap between the debut EP "Yellow Ochre" and the debut album "Celestial Greens" with a lot of work with Mamas Gun, Poppy Ajudha or Emma-Jean Thackray, among others.
