Award of the SWR Jazz Prize to Kathrin Pechlof
Tuesday, november 14, 2023, theHouse
The presentation of the SWR Jazz Award to harpist Kathrin Pechlof will take place as part of the Enjoy Jazz Festival as an Encore event.
It is no exaggeration to call Kathrin Pechlof a pioneer - because her instrument, the concert harp, was long considered an exception in jazz. That this has changed in the meantime is also thanks to her - for many years the musician, born in Munich in 1978, has had a strong impact on the German jazz scene and beyond with her artistic personality. In addition to her artistic work, Pechlof has been involved in cultural politics for many years - among other things, for fair working conditions in the independent Berlin scene. Much in demand as a guest musician and cooperation partner (among others by Nils Wogram, Pablo Heldt, Kit Downes, Elisabeth Coudoux or the Melt-Trio), she also performs as a soloist and as leader of her own trio with saxophonist Christian Weidner and bassist Robert Landfermann. Kathrin Pechlof can also be heard with these two on this evening - when the SWR Jazz Prize 2023, jointly sponsored by the state of Rhineland-Palatinate and SWR, is awarded to a harpist for the first time in its long history.
