Alexandra Lehmler invites Apollonio Maiello & Jörg Brinkmann

Politics, at least, currently offers ample opportunity for comparisons with the crisis-ridden years of the Weimar Republic. What parallels the 1920s and the 2020s might still have is an interesting thought experiment. Or a musical one! Mannheim-based saxophonist Alexandra Lehmler, Italian-German pianist Apollonio Maiello, and Kempen-born cellist Jörg Brinkmann beam themselves back to the exciting and turbulent Golden Twenties with the help of advanced sound textures and texts by Erich Kästner, in order to learn something about the present. Kästner's poems from "Herz auf Taille" (Heart on Waist) from 1928, insightful, sharp, and full of wit, are translated into sound language, "into musical images," dreaming, dancing, and radiant, as the musicians themselves describe it. Since time travel is not yet possible in reality, but is certainly conceivable and illuminating in art, one should definitely set off into the past with the trio – and into the spaces in between and of possibility.
