Zanele Muholi, born in 1972, sees herself as a non-binary visual activist. Her works have already been on view at London's Tate Modern, for example, pictorial metaphors with a steel sponge in her hair or a body wrapped in a suction pipe. Her particular commitment is to the struggle for the self-assertion of the South African community beyond heteronormativity and its common perspectives of perception. The film is based on interviews with Zanele Muholi and her environment. The focus is on the connection between class, origin and sexuality.
