Enjoy Jazz School Big Band
Sunday, October 29, 2023, theHouse
There are countless studies on the effect of active music-making on the development of children and adolescents, which prove that practically all areas of development are positively influenced: from the cognitive to the emotional. This also includes two aspects that are particularly important to us in our support programs. First: the transfer aspect.
This is because music, and in particular learning and playing an instrument, generates numerous transfer effects. Anatomically, this is illustrated by the fact that the corpus callosum, i.e. the pathway system that connects the two hemispheres of the brain, is more developed in active musicians than in non-musicians. Communication and exchange between the cerebral hemispheres are improved and lead, for example, to better verbal and in some cases also better visual memory performance. Secondly: the social aspect. Professor of education Hans Günther Bastian simply says that music is one of the most social media because, for example, in a big band you are dependent on each other when making music, i.e. you learn integrative, appreciative behavior as a prerequisite for achieving a common goal that includes the individual goal. In short: playing together teaches you the ability to look out for others. For us, the Enjoy Jazz school big band has become a highly valued symbol of these creative and social skills.
