Jarasum Jazz Festival presents Korean Jazz Night

Gee Hye Lee found her calling early: She began playing the piano at the age of three, receiving classical lessons in her hometown of Seoul. Her first competition prizes pointed in the direction of a career as a concert pianist. But then the music of Miles Davis crossed her path, she listened to the sounds of Bill Evans, discovered Herbie Hancock. In 1996, she moved from Seoul to Stuttgart to study jazz, received a scholarship to Berklee College of Music in Boston, was awarded the Jazz Prize of the State of Baden-Württemberg and plays at festivals worldwide. Among others, at the Jarasum International Jazz Festival, founded in 2004. So for the South Korean festival organizers it was obvious to bring the musical ambassador Gee Hye Lee as a guest to the specially curated Enjoy Jazz evening. And she is not coming alone. She will be joined by singer Song Yi Jeon, who has already worked with Wolfgang Muthspiel and Ambrose Akinmusire, among others. Another guest will be the Korean composer and drummer Soojin Suh, who will expand his traditional trio with a saxophonist. With his album "Colorist," he recently won the prestigious "Best Performance" award at the Korean Popular Music Awards with his amalgam of traditional Korean music and jazz.
