Katharina Ernst
Friday, October 3, 2025, depot
Whether it's the grandiose Black Page Orchestra or star choreographers such as Florentina Holzinger and Kate McIntosh, they're all falling for a percussionist from Vienna. Katharina Ernst, born in 1987, is truly an artist's artist, a meta-artist. Anyone who hears her immediately realizes that several things are happening at the same time. Motifs and rhythms are not only arranged chronologically, but wander through nested spaces. She achieves a special intensity in her unparalleled, polyrhythmic art in her solo performances, which is why we have chosen this format. When Katharina Ernst was awarded the "H13 2024 Lower Austria Prize for Performance", the jury was impressed: "Along translation processes between music, choreography and architecture, the artist explores the question of the extent to which an abstract composition could be a mirror or even a model for social coexistence." There is a term that summarizes all of this: Relevance.
