Lucia Cadotsch AKI

The light and the heavy, Lucia Cadotsch, winner of the German Jazz Award 2021, brings the two poles together with her new project AKI.

Light-as-a-feather melodies, which the Swiss singer sets to music as if dreamy, along with lyrics that artistically process personal experiences as a bandleader in the male-dominated, hetero-normative jazz world. Figures like Medusa or Rosa Luxemburg meet self-confident statements that want to do away with social constraints. On this evening, Aki's sound worlds are created by a quartet that also includes Manuel Schmiedel (piano), Phil Donkin (bass) and Fabian Rösch (drums). AKI stands with both feet firmly in contemporary jazz, but is not afraid of poppy moments, of sound playfulness, yes, even to slip into danceable punk moments.
