Lucrecia Dalt presents ¡Ay!
Last fall, the more advanced music critics rubbed their eyes and ears in amazement. It was not as if
"¡Ay!", the seventh album by Colombian sound artist Maria Lucrecia Pérez López, Lucrecia Dalt for short, was released out of nowhere. At the beginning of the decade, Dalt belonged to that group of experimenters who opened up new sound spaces for pop music: James Blake, Julia Holter, Darkstar. A good decade later, which Dalt had fed with various instrumental crossover albums between minimal and ambient, the studied geotechnical engineer then landed the big hit: "¡Ay!" is a kind of sci-fi concept album about the confrontation of an alien with life concepts such as "physicality" or "love" of the earthlings, underlaid with deconstructed and decelerated forms of Latin American rhythm. Very peculiar. Must be heard.
