Mica Millar
Saturday, October 25, 2025, BASF Society House
Whenever the voice seems to be older than the singer, this supposed paradox creates a tension from which great things emerge. Amy Winehouse is an example of this, as is the young Norah Jones. And now Mica Millar. "Soul Act of the Year", nominated for "Breakup Act of the Year" - her debut "Heaven Knows" catapulted the young Brit from supporting Lionel Ritchie or Gregory Porter to headliner with sold-out concerts across Europe in no time at all. Incidentally, she writes her songs herself. In them, she deals with spiritual as well as social issues. This diversity is a consequence of her way of working. She uses a kind of stream-of-consciousness method. She uses chords on the piano to search for words and stories. In doing so, "I basically sing everything that comes to mind and then interpret it later." This is precisely where the authenticity she is repeatedly credited with comes from. And Mica Millar also has a plausible explanation for the extraordinary intensity and intimacy of this music, which seems to miraculously take us back into ourselves when we listen to it: "I always write at night, usually in dim light and always alone."
