Miles Davis: Birth of the Cool

Miles Davis would have turned 100 this year. It’s a good opportunity to take another look at a musician who shaped jazz like almost no other and constantly reimagined it.

Stanley Nelson's documentary *Birth of the Cool* tells the story of this exceptional musician through previously unreleased archival footage, studio outtakes, and rare photographs. Among those featured are Wayne Shorter, Quincy Jones, Carlos Santana, Marcus Miller, and Herbie Hancock.

Following the special screening, director Stanley Nelson will join us live via Zoom. The discussion with the filmmaker will be moderated by music historian, author, and producer Ashley Kahn, who has explored music history—and Miles Davis in particular—in depth through his books and other work.
