Moor Mother & Lonnie Holley
Lonnie Holley's biography is a radically forced version of the "American Dream. Born in 1950 as the seventh of 27 children in Birmingham, Alabama, Holley experienced poverty and abuse in his childhood and struggled along as a day laborer until he "accidentally" found his way to art. As a sculptor, photographer, draftsman or performance artist, the self-taught artist found recognition in the international art scene. At the age of 62, Holley's debut album "Just Before Music. Like an exemplary blues singer, he transforms the pain and suffering of his biography into something positive and life-affirming. In March, his latest album "Oh Me Oh My" was released on the hipster label "Jagjaguwar", with guest appearances by Michael Stipe or Bon Iver. To be heard on two tracks at once: our artist in residence Moor Mother, whose massive anger finds a counterpart here. Iconoclast meets visionary. Included: spoken word poetry, improvisation, hip hop, gospel - and most likely "incredible strange music."
