Rosie Frater-Taylor

That has to come first! In your early 20s, you dare to perform idiosyncratic cover versions of "Dreams" (Stevie Nicks) and "Crazy" (Seal) and find new facets to these world-famous songs. But that is by far not all. Originally from a folk background, London-born Rosie Frater-Taylor released self-produced demos with DIY verve that caused quite a stir. She was 16 at the time, and the demos turned into the debut album "On my Mind" (2018) with fans like Gilles Peterson, Becca Stevens, Nitin Sawhney and Snarky Puppy promoting her from then on. The British press considered her "one to watch" (Jazzwise). Coming from a musical home - both parents professional musicians - Rosie Frater-Taylor expanded the range of her expression as a singer/songwriter by continuously listening through her parents' eclectic record collection, successfully completing studies at the Royal Academy of Music and, of course, being active at the Tomorrow's Warriors talent factory. Her favorites include Ben Howard, Becca Stevens, Lianne La Havas and Lewis Taylor, as well as jazz guitarists Pat Metheny, George Benson and Lionel Loueke. And, of course, John Mayer. In the summer of 2021, at the age of 22, she released her second album "Bloom", which captivates with a quality all its own. A filigree virtuosity that does not show off, but is virtually turned inward. There are the two aforementioned cover versions, but throughout, their own compositions are also characterized by exquisite vocal arrangements and feather-light guitar playing. The lyrics are introspective and original, and when Frater-Taylor sings, one can think of Joni Mitchell on the one hand, but also of Nick Drake on the other. A delicate and self-confident sound that no longer cares about genres and pigeonholes and can definitely be pop. In 2022 Rose Frater-Taylor plays at Ronnie Scott's, at the Jazz Café, has a gig at the "We out there" festival, plays her songs live in a trio, but also sometimes with big band arrangements, tours with Madison Cunningham and goes on tour in Europe for the first time. One stop: the BASF Feierabendshaus. Don't miss.
