Simin Tander
Monday, 20. October 2025, Karlstorbahnhof
Strictly speaking, you don't need to understand Simin Tander's singing, it is enough to feel it and simply trust it. It is a song that carries with it empty spaces created by the brief breathing in of syllables and is as existentially important as the short pause between inhaling and exhaling. But if you want to understand this song, because it is not enough for you to learn something about yourself from it, then you have to know that its root is a kind of resilient self-assurance of the artist as a child. Strokes of fate have made it necessary to create an inner space, inaccessible from the outside, safe from everything that one cannot influence, especially as a child. When the imagination begins to give this space a voice, then songs of life emerge from it, often in Tander's father tongue Pashto, and thus music like a string of pearls of shining tones.
The concert will be followed by an artist talk on the festival theme of Knowing.
The conversation will be led by Maxi Broecking.
