Sophia Club: What bodies know

Have we lost the connection to the deep knowledge that comes from movement and music?

In our hyper-connected, language-saturated digital lives, it's easy to think that words are the key to knowledge. After all, large language models like ChatGPT seem strangely cognizant of a world they have never experienced. Yet humans have always understood their cultures and the universe by moving through the world as embodied beings. On this evening we explore the knowledge of the body - and how singing, dancing and deep listening allow us to expand our perspectives on life.

For this musical and intellectual feast, we welcome Bernd Brabec, musicologist and anthropologist of sound; Ophelia Deroy, professor of neuroscience and philosophy; Tony Buck, renowned percussionist and improviser; and Magda Mayas, acclaimed pianist and composer.
