Tania Giannouli Solo

Pianist, composer and project creator Tania Giannouli's astonishing versatility and flair for initiating interdisciplinary projects in ever new constellations that create artistic sparks was already praised here when she visited Enjoy Jazz for the first time in 2019 with the expanded REWA project. It is precisely these qualities of developing and shaping different fields that predestine her to enrich the festival program alongside Nik Bärtsch as Artist in Residence in 2022. Two years ago, in October 2020, she, who has been playing the piano since the age of five, gave an insight into her musical universe with an acclaimed solo performance (2 encores!) in the Kunsthalle Mannheim, which ranges from various folklore to new music. A concert review of the evening reads as follows: With this solo performance, Giannouli "manifested herself as a (...) unique and haunting voice. (...) She proved to be a daring leader from the European periphery who restructures and fuses old and new, known and unknown, classical and improvisational elements in a lively and captivating way. She is not a typical jazz musician, but an energetic and determined player with an open and versatile musical mind." It will therefore be interesting to see to what extent the setting in the Friedenskirche opposite the (modernist) Kunsthalle will "change" the atmosphere of the solo performance.
