Terri Lyne Carrington & Anke Helfrich
Monday, 30. October 2023, theHouse
One day after the European premiere of her opulent "Seen/Unseen" project, Terri Lyne Carrington plays an intimate duo concert with pianist Anke Helfrich as part of her resi- dency. Two women meet who have something amazing in common.
For Helfrich is the only German composer still living in Germany to have found inclusion in jazz's unofficial new "Reel Book," Carrington's compendium "New Standards. 101 Lead Sheets by Women Composers." This summit meeting is also a premiere, by the way.
Helfrich, who spent her childhood in Namibia, is concerned in her music with positioning, making visible, taking a stance. Her album "Dedication," for example, bows to Martin Luther King and Nelson Mandela, while her current program "We'll rise" is dedicated to making women visible as empowerment. This closes the circle to Terri Lyne Carrington thematically in an exciting way.
