The 49-year-old jazz and funk trumpeter Roy Hargrove died of cardiac arrest in New York last Friday. His exceptional talent on the brass instrument was discovered at the age of 17. Roy Hargrove was born in Texas in 1969 and studied at the Berklee College of Music in Boston and at the New York New School of Music. He won his first Grammy in 1998. Artists such as Erykah Badu, Herbie Hancock and Michael Brecker have performed with him on stage.
