I Am Not Your Negro

This year we are celebrating the 100th birthday of the American writer and civil rights activist James Baldwin. To mark the occasion, Enjoy Jazz presents Grammy winner Meshell Ndegeocello with her highly acclaimed current album, a Baldwin tribute, live at the Feuerwache on november 1st. And as a special treat, the Oscar-nominated documentary film "I Am Not Your Negro" by Raoul Peck will be screened immediately beforehand at Cinema Quadrat. It is based on a fragment by Baldwin and takes a new look at American history - with very personal memories of the three murdered civil rights activist friends Malcolm X, Medgar Evers and Martin Luther King as well as reflections on his own, often painful life experience as a black person. According to the Guardian, the result is "one of the best films about the civil rights movement ever made." By the way: If you can show a ticket for Meshell Ndegeocello at the Cinema Quadrat box office, you only pay 7 euros instead of 10.
