Jason Moran solo

Staying on the heels of pianist Jason Moran has proven to be extremely rewarding. Moran, born in 1975, was already one of the "36 under 37" whom "Smithsonian Magazine" thought would do great things in 2008, when he wowed audiences with his Bandwagon Trio at Enjoy Jazz. Extensively educated and trained, his solo recitals range from Fats Waller to new music. In the quartet of Charles Lloyd he was just as convincing as in the duo with Archie Shepp ("Let My People Go", partly recorded live in the Alte Feuerwache at Enjoy Jazz 2018). In addition, he is interested in the visual arts, which led to multimedia projects for Carnegie Hall or the Venice Biennale, such as most recently the impressive "Meditation on the life and legacy of James Reese Europe", which recalled a long-forgotten player in jazz history. Just released: the accompanying masterful album "From the Dancehall to the Battlefield". History can hardly be more present.
