Jazz Is Dead

For the first time, Enjoy Jazz is awarding the title "Artist in Residence" not to an artist, but to a record company. To understand this, we need to take a quick look at L.A.: posters line the streets, white lettering on a black background. They belong to a series of events that gave rise to a label that now enjoys cult status: "Jazz is Dead". Behind the project are multi-instrumentalist and Kendrick Lamar producer Adrian Younge and Ali Shaheed Muhammad, co-founder of A Tribe Called Quest. Enjoy Jazz has succeeded in bringing a major label evening to Heidelberg. And Adrian Younge is not the only one coming. He is bringing other top acts with him: the singer Bilal (Beyoncé, Kendrick Lamar, among others), the celebrated protagonist of the neo-soul movement, and, a special honor, the 85-year-old saxophone legend Gary Bartz, collaborator of Eric Dolphy, Max Roach, McCoy Tyner and Miles Davis.
